Mbappé and Haaland set for blockbuster World Cup showdown as France face Norway

Two of world football’s biggest stars will go head-to-head on Friday as France take on Norway in one of the standout fixtures of the FIFA World Cup group stage.

Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland have both enjoyed an outstanding start to the tournament, scoring four goals each and emerging as leading contenders for the Golden Boot. Their meeting adds extra significance to a match that will determine the winner of Group I.

France enter the contest in a strong position after convincing victories in their opening matches. Thanks to a superior goal difference, Les Bleus only need a draw to secure first place in the group and a potentially more favourable route through the knockout stages.

Norway, however, have been one of the tournament’s surprise performers. Consecutive victories have underlined their attacking quality, with Haaland leading the line in impressive fashion during his first World Cup appearance.

The Manchester City striker has remained relaxed ahead of the clash, insisting his side has already exceeded expectations despite acknowledging France’s status as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

France’s preparations have been affected by the temporary absence of head coach Didier Deschamps, who left the team’s camp following a family bereavement. Assistant coach Guy Stephan will oversee the team until Deschamps returns.

Elsewhere at the World Cup, Spain will look to secure top spot in Group H against Uruguay, while Cape Verde continue their remarkable campaign against Saudi Arabia.

In Group G, Egypt face Iran in a match that has attracted additional attention due to local events taking place in Seattle, where the fixture will be played. Belgium will also be aiming to secure qualification for the knockout stage when they meet New Zealand.

With the group stage entering its decisive phase, Friday’s schedule promises several high-profile encounters that could shape the remainder of the tournament.
